‘Choosing the best Cheshire wedding videographer for 2024’

It’s no surprise why wedding videography in Cheshire has become increasingly popular with engaged couples in the last few years. Cheshire boasts some of the finest countrysides in the UK and with venues like Sandhole Oak Barn, Oak Tree of Peover and Merrydale Manor you can see why wedding videographers are in such big numbers here.

This does however make searching for your perfect wedding videographer harder. With so much choice and varying price points, it’s difficult to understand who to choose. This is why I’ve written a guide to see what to look for, questions to ask, and ultimately narrowing down your choice so you can have the best Cheshire wedding videographer for you.

‘A discreet, cinematic touch for your wedding film’

Style

As a wedding videographer myself I highly recommend looking at the different styles of videography that are out there. To explain my style as an example, I’m discreet, unobtrusive and want to get the natural, candid shots, but also take into account the composition of the shot to ensure it looks cinematic. I work with the couple to see if they enjoy posing or if they are looking for more ‘captured in the moment’ shots. This lets me know how to interact with the couple on the day and during the couples portraits session so that everyone is relaxed and comfortable.

My style is also about storytelling, I use the speeches, vows, readings or letter readings to ensure the film is bespoke to your day and tells your story as a couple. It’s about crafting together a timeless film for you to watch back in 30 years and feel those same emotions or even to see what your friends and family looked/sounded like back then. The films I create reflect your day.

I can explain this style more but for now it’s important for you to know some other styles. Some Cheshire wedding videographers just have music and motion in their films. What I mean by this is that they don’t have any dialogue to their films, it’s just music and footage from the day. This can be a more affordable option for those on a stricter budget. Please note that this isn’t offered by all videographers, if there are no examples of this on their website, they probably don’t offer this.

Below is an example of one of my films.

‘How much does a wedding videographer charge?’

Cost

Touching on this subject early in this article as I'm sure with the current climate, it’s an important topic to go over. Wedding videography can be seen as a luxury item to add to the wedding, and with this it can come with a high price tag. Some videographers I know charge £5k-£10k+ as an example. If that number makes you gulp, don’t worry, that’s more reaching into the higher range and not considered the norm as such.

Cheshire wedding videographers prices range depend a lot on where they are in their business, how in demand they are, how many weddings they take on a year and the level of services they offer. Most videographers offer two packages, a highlight film and a feature film package. The highlight film can be anywhere from 5-10 minutes and the feature film can be between 12-20 minutes. Both packages usually include ceremony and toast (speeches) edits with the option for a few add ons.

With the above in mind you are looking at spending anywhere from £1,500-£2,500 on a highlight film and £1,800-£3,000 for a feature film. These are very basic numbers as every wedding videographer prices themselves differently. It’s good to note that you should ask the question of what they offer and what it includes. Some Cheshire wedding videographers charge more than this and offer less. This is because they are extremely skilled in what they do and are in a high enough demand to justify this.

Ask your suppliers

Wedding videographers are normally booked after the venue and the photographer. The relationship between a photographer and videographer needs to be symbiotic so that the day will run smoothly from their end. Your wedding photographer would have worked with lots of different videographers and will know which ones not only do a great job, but are also easy to work with and will help the flow of the day.

If you have a wedding planner such as LMJ events, then you can get them to sieve down the type of videographer you want and take the hard work out of planning a wedding. They’ll know which videographers work well with them, deliver high quality films and give you the best experience. If you don’t have a planner then any of your other suppliers will know of someone to recommend or point you in the right direction.

Watch their films, not just reels

This sounds like an obvious one but please watch your videographers portfolio of wedding films. This is the best way to really see if their films resonate with you and if they would tell your story the way you want it to be told. We talked about style earlier and this is a good way to see if they have the style you’re looking for.

I would definitely use social media to begin your hunt for a Cheshire wedding videographer, even search that phrase as a hashtag. Find a few that you like and then head to their website to watch the films. A reel/TikTok will never truly represent what a videographer offers. It will certainly give you an idea, but remember these are reels that are made to be short form content to grab your attention. The beauty of their work lies within their portfolio which you’ll find on their website.

Ask your wedding photographer, planner or friends for their recommendations. Search the hashtag Cheshire wedding videographer on social media and watch their portfolio of films to see who connects with you. With the information above you’ll soon be on your way to choosing your perfect videographer, getting excited about the day and having the best experience.
