Guide to the Top 5 wedding venues in Dordogne
Dordogne: home to untouched countryside, Luxury Chateaux & Intmate villas
Dordogne, also known as Périgord, is a region in southwest France defined by its storied past, rolling vineyards, and serene river valleys. Unlike much of modern France, Dordogne retains an air of quiet elegance, where history and refinement blend seamlessly. For couples seeking a wedding immersed in authentic French charm, this region offers a setting of understated luxury and timeless beauty. With its medieval villages—Beynac-et-Cazenac, La Roque-Gageac, and Castlenaud-La-Chapelle—alongside a wealth of exquisite châteaux, Dordogne is the perfect canvas for an effortlessly sophisticated celebration, where every detail is infused with romance and heritage.
Dordogne isn’t filled with tourism so you can really enjoy a quiet and relaxing time here for you and your wedding guests. The area still holds the vast majority of its naturally beauty, barely touched by the modern day architecture. You can enjoy visiting the castles here where the region is sometimes known as ‘the land of 1001 castles. Some of these churches and castles are places you can hold your wedding ceremony. To be close to Dordogne, you can fly into either aéroport de Bordeux or Bergerac Dordogne Perigord Airport. From here you can easily hire a car and explore this beautiful region of the south of France.
My personal choice for the top 5 wedding venues in Dordogne
Chateau de la mothe
Château de la Mothe is a stunning 13th century castle renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries. Set in the picturesque region of Dordogne, this venue is well secluded and is perfect for a private wedding. From the moment you set eyes on this venue, you are captivated by its quintessential French classicism. A wedding at Château de la Mothe can be truly stunning.
Château de la Mothe has around 15 acres with two converted agricultural buildings which hold your reception and guest accommodation. Hosting around 40 guests offering authentic decor with a homely feel. Capturing a wedding here as a Château de la Mothe wedding videographer, I can say first hand that this venue has the most gorgeous golden hour light in the evening. If you’re looking for the most gorgeous portraits across the fields then I highly recommend this venue. With ample shade for your cocktail hour, guests can relax under the shade of the trees whilst enjoying their favourite tipple.
Contact Château de la Mothe to see how they can host your wedding event, be it one day or over a weekend, this venue delivers. I do recommend Virginie, littleBig, who was the planner here when I captured a wedding.
CHâTEAU DE LA VALOUZE
Château de la Valouze is a luxury wedding between Bordeaux and Dordogne. Its grand castle exterior boasts one of my favourite looks on this list. Its interior has a stately home feel from back in the UK but has that French elegance throughout. The estate can accommodate 96 guests and has 34 hectares of maintained, luscious parkland and facilities. Facilities include a pool, jazz bar and a host of different rooms for you to choose from for your ceremony, or, have your ceremony outside in the gardens.
The Château as once owned by a man responsible for the rise of Impressionism, an art phenomenon starting in France in the 1860’s. You can see throughout the venue that style and an artistic vision has been kept. JP and Dean bought the venue in 2015 and they have done an amazing job in making this luxury wedding venue the place for select couples to get married.
