‘How Olivia and Matthew met’
Olivia and Matthew’s paths first crossed during their school years. Though they were not friends at the time, they were certainly aware of one another. Fate, however, had other plans, bringing them back together 13 years later.
Their first date was at The Beverley Arms, where they enjoyed a beautifully prepared steak pie and a delicate chicken risotto after weeks of conversation. Their second date, however, was far more eventful—set against the dramatic backdrop of Scarborough Beach on an exceptionally windy day. Despite the chaos, it was here they felt a deep connection, making it the perfect place for Matthew’s future proposal.
On another cold and blustery day, they both returned to Scarborough Beach, this time with their beloved dog, Dotty, by their side. After Olivia joyfully accepted, they celebrated with fish and chips at a café named "Princess," a sweet nod to Dotty’s nickname, before calling family to share the wonderful news.
Olivia is the proud owner of a thriving beauty therapy business, where she spends her days caring for her wonderful clients. Her passion for beauty and wellbeing is matched by Matthew’s dedication to property investment, having spent the last four years successfully expanding his portfolio.
Beyond their professional pursuits, their greatest shared passion lies in their love for horses, which plays a significant role in their lives. Whether riding through the countryside or simply enjoying time at the stables, it is a bond that deepens their connection. They also share a love for skiing, relishing the exhilaration of the slopes and the charm of alpine escapes.
At the heart of their lives are family, friends, and the simple pleasures that bring true joy—spending time outdoors, being surrounded by animals and nature, embracing the beauty of the countryside, and, of course, indulging in exceptional food.
They chose their venue, walled garden within the Dalton Estate, because they have shared some of the most perfect afternoons sat outside The Pipe and Glass with a nice drink and always finish off with a stroll around the estate and village in the setting sun. The couple hired me as their Luxury wedding videographer which was a real privilege. For Olivias wedding, she wore a dress from The Harrogate Wedding Lounge, make up was executed by the amazing Olivia herself and hair by her wonderful bridesmaids. This was the look Olivia wanted and was achieved flawlessly as you can see in the videos and images in this article.
“exceeded our expectations!”
The day began with a scenic drive across the UK, entering Yorkshire and to the final destination of Olivia’s parents home, where I was warmly greeted by Oli’s step father. After a brief exchange with Olivia, I immediately set about capturing the first establishing shots for their film. The house was beautiful with a grand garden, multiple rooms and plenty of natural light. The talented Chris from Bloom Weddings, who was the photographer, was a pleasure to work with, bringing a calm professionalism to the atmosphere. Olivia had requested that I capture some of Matthew at the Pipe and glass as this had sentimental value to them. Before the wedding I had explained that by doing so it would mean I wouldn’t be able to capture the first look with her father but she preferred this to be captured instead.
The ceremony took place at St Marys Church, South Dalton, where it was adorned with beautiful florals. Shooting inside religious buildings can come with challenges for the couple hiring a videographer or photographer. Some priests only allow the suppliers to stand at the back and have certain licensing laws to allow filming. Fortunately at this Church the priest was lovely and didn’t burden the couple with such requests which led to a beautiful ceremony video. I tend to shoot from the back after the bridal entrance as the composition is always pleasing, and it allows the couple to enjoy their ceremony without an extra camera at the front. The service was filled with readings, hymns and to finish, the first kiss between Olivia and Matthew. Confetti was just outside of the church and then it was time to head over to the estate and start the days proceedings.
Cocktail hour began on arrival to the walled garden where the staff had drinks at the ready for the couple and guests. Will’s Marquees had achieved a flawless British countryside wedding aesthetic perfectly. It’s at this point I like to let the couple mingle and concentrate on hugs, smiles and laughter from the friends and family. Whilst Chris organised the group shots, I set up a camera to get a safety shot of the VIP’s and then continue to capture candids. The walled garden is a joy for a couples portrait session, with its wild flowers, meticulously cut lawn and the sun beaming down led to some of my favourite images of the year. The couple had arranged the popping of a 300cl bottle of Champagne to start the wedding breakfast.
The guests entered the marquee for the wedding breakfast prepared for a feast and toasts that brought tears and laughter. The toasts started with Olivia’s stepfather, her father, Matthew and his best man. The Toastmaster was another of Matthews friends which made the whole part of the this day more unique for the couple.
As we drew into the evening, the guests were truly entertained by the Bamboleo band, flying the singer over from France. The band were a huge hit with the guests performing covers from The Gipsy Kings and popular songs from the modern day. Before the bands second set, the couple had their first dance leading to some beautiful footage. The night was then topped off with Dj, Sax and bongos provided by Club Class Uk.
These are Olivia’s words on ‘the best wedding videographer’: “Probably the best place to start would be saying the biggest THANK YOU!! From the bottom of our hearts you have captured our day beautifully and we couldn’t be happier in the creative video, how its spans the full day from getting ready to partying later it’s wonderful. I’m also so glad you got bits of Matt before the ceremony.”
The kind words from Olivia and Matthew about ‘the best wedding videographer’ …
“I just can’t thank you enough Tony. The day was such a whirlwind and now to be able to see it back through your lense, it’s really special. There are moments I had forgotten and didn’t see, I can now keep. It means everything, thank you”
